In those cases, the IRS and state taxing authorities don't just sit back and wait for you to do something. Instead, they try to enforce collections against you. Sometimes you need a little time to understand the tax problems you're facing and to have someone explain where you stand and what your options are at this point. In dealing with the IRS and/or the state, we are often able to negotiate a protection against enforcement action so you can have the time you need to understand and consider your options. Sometimes none of the permanent resolution options are available at a particular time. In these situations, we may need to defend you against the efforts of the taxing authorities and work out arrangements that you can live with for now while you await an opportunity for a permanent resolution to arise.
